One of the most frequently asked questions is ' What style of hat should
I wear to suit my face?'
My reply is to wear a hat that you feel comfortable in which
suits the occasion.
-
If you have a small face, avoid styles with a very large brim and large
crown.
-
If your have a large face, avoid styles that hug your face.
-
Hats should be enjoyed by the wearer and the onlooker.
-
Your headwear should compliment your outfit, not over shadow it.
-
Confidence plays a large part in hat wearing and if you feel that you
look good, then you probably do!
HAT
SIZES
The average head size for a lady is 22" the smallest being 21.5"
and the largest 24". Most high street stores stock hats in one size
- usually 22".
To measure your head size correctly, take a tape measure, place it around
the circumference of your head, starting form the back of your head and
bringing both ends of the tape measure to the forehead, positioning it
approx 1" above your ears and 1" above your eyebrows, making
sure the tape measure is sitting flat and snug around your head.
FASCINATORS
Fascinators are becoming ever more fashionable due to their ease of wear
and design possibilities. There are no rules when choosing the size or
style. The one thing you should consider is which fitting is suitable
for your hair type / hairstyle. Most of our fascinators are fitted with
either a haircomb, headband or snap clip.
Take a look at our tips below:
We use two styles of headband, a very thin (3mm) metal
headband in a gold or silver finish. They can also be covered in a colour
to match your fascinator or hair colour. Because these headbands are so
thin they can be disguised in your hair so as not to be seen. They are
very comfortable to wear and suitable for any hair type or style. The
other headband we use is a fabric one (1cm thick). They are best suited
if you want the headband to be seen or wearing longer hair down.
Snap clips. We use two types. The long narrow silver
clip is usually used by hairdressers, they and are 3.5" long, the
gold snapclip is also 3.5" long. They are most suited for short hair,
fine hair, and if you are wearing your hair up eg..French pleat etc....The
only downside to the clips is that you are limited to the style of headwear
which they can be fitted to.
Haircombs
are the most popular choice. Giving you more flexibility positioning it
into your hair, they grip the hair extremely well, providing that they
are put into your hair correctly, they are suitable for most hairstyles
and hair types. To secure the comb in to your hair, it is best to push
the comb forwards towards your face (the prongs facing forwards). The
comb will also fit more securely if you use products on your hair, hairspray
is great, but do apply this before you secure your fascinator. Back combing
your hair will also help, if you have silky smooth hair, and do not need
hair products, or your hair is very fine or short you may find the haircomb
does not fit securely and may slip.
